Long Description Specialists in the Division of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics treat children and adolescents with developmental delays and disabilities. These include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD), mental retardation, autism, dyslexia and learning disabilities. However, the broader category encompasses conditions that result in substantial functional limitation in three or more of the following areas: self care, receptive and expressive language, learning, mobility, self direction, capacity for independent living, and economic self-sufficiency. The McKay Scholarships for Students with Disabilities Program provided over 26,000 Florida students with special needs the opportunity to attend a participating private school during the 2012-13 school year. The McKay Scholarships Program also offers parents public school choice. A parent of an eligible special needs student may choose to transfer the student to another public school.
